3 Signs Your Child is Ready for Swimming Lessons

3 Signs its time for Swim Lessons

Learning to swimming is a vital life skill, as it is inevitable they will be exposed to water throughout their lives. Starting children in swim lessons at the right time can ensure they grow in confidence and maximize their progress through both physical strength and capability to swim, as well as being able build confidence without fear.

  • Comfort around Water

If your child is happy splashing in the tub getting water over their eyes and hair, they are familiar enough to begin swim lessons. While some children do not like water on their eyes, this can be overcome in their swimming lessons, however will take come time and patience so that they can build confidence and trust.

  • Physical Readiness

While it is recommended for children to begin swim lessons in baby classes, most children will start swimming lessons in our independent swimmers class which is without a parent in the pool. These swim classes require children to wait their turn, and then follow the instructors direction for their kicking, breath holding or floating practice. If your child is age 3 or 4 or above and has begun learning to follow direction, wait and can follow an instructors direction - they are ready to succeed in their swim lessons.

  • Interest in being in the Water

If your child has had exposure to water, likes being in water, wants to join friends in pools or lakes then that is a great indicator they will succeed in their swim lessons. Confidence in the water can take some time, but even if they are a bit nervous in their first swim lessons (which is normal when lacking swim skills), they will quickly become proud of their achievements as swimming lessons and tell friends and family.

Bonus Tips

  • Start slow: Their first classes will not see great progress however as trust is built with their instructor and they begin to understand the activities, progress in swim lessons will soon follow.
  • Choose the right swim school: Beginners need a small environment, not a lot of noise, warm water and a familiar setting with mom or dad nearby. At Blast Swim Academy Franchises we are designed with these factors in mind.

Swimming is a lifelong skill and ensures a love of water. Seeing our children develop a love of water through their swim lessons gives them great confidence, enjoyment and enthusiasm.
