Swim Safety Tips for Texas Parents
Swim Safety Tips for Texas Parents
Swim Lessons are a great start, but..
To keep your child safe around water, we need a combination of swim skills IN the water (which are learned through their Swim Lessons in Little Elm or Sugar Land at Blast Swim Academy) AND AROUND the water.
Here are some vital tips that will keep your family safe around water:
1) Supervise your child who in the water
Drowning is silent so consistent supervision is necessary to ensure the safety of children in the water. Avoid distractions of phones and long conversations and be vigilant as drowning can happen in shallow water just as easily as a deep swimming pool or lake.
2) Teach your child to follow rules around water
The pool is a place of fun, enjoyment and memories however there is several dangerous scenarios which can occur without clear boundaries. These include rough play between siblings which may be dangerous, running which may lead to head injuries and jumping which can also occur serious injury ultimately leading to drowning. Swim Lessons is a great learning tool for children as they learn to stay safe and wait their turn in the pool. Swim Lessons gives a great foundation for rules which parents can then build on.
3) Enroll your child in Swim Lessons
Having a child attend swim lessons is a vital component of water safety. In the event of an accident at Blast Swim Academy Franchises children are trained to both return to the side of the pool and also complete a safety float if no side is accessible. In Texas swim lessons may be the difference between your child safely awaiting a rescue or swallowing water.
4) Use Safety Equipment around Water
Mandatory Safety Equipment includes life jackets and vests but also teaching children to use buoyancy aids such as noodles to assist anyone in distress in the pool and not putting themselves in danger. At Blast Swim Academy in our swim lessons we cover scenarios where this may occur.
5) Learn CPR
Many organizations such as The Red Cross offer CPR training which may save a life or reduce the risk of brain injury in the event of a near-drowning.
6) Ensure your pool fence is maintained
Pool fences are the first layer of defense against pool entry and doing weekly checks can ensure no children can access the pool without supervision. In our Texas Blast Swim Academy locations we discuss the regulatory need for pool fencing in our safety weeks.
